  Posibly rickets
Q: I am caring for a puppiy whose front legs get tired and bow out i think she has rickets she had a collar sewn on her neck which didnt permit her neck to grow and probably wouldnt allow food to pass im giving her childrens vitamins she also has sarcoptic mange but has been progressing in both weight and health what do you think? thank you in advance karen
A: I would take her to vet to be evaluated. i doubt she has rickets which is rare in dogs. just put in good diet like pet guard and good multi vitamin suppement like vitachews from 1800petmeds.

Temaril-p
Q: Our 1.5 year old golden retriever has been itching for a while now. the vet gave her temaril- which we gave her, but she was urinating all over the house, even in the bed! i have been giving her only one a day instead of three, which stopped the urinating in the house. but it hasn't stopped the itching only for the day, at night its back. my question is should we get more of this medicine, or should we try a spray for her flaky irritated skin?
A: Since temaril p does have cortisone in it this can make some dogs urinate excessively. perhaps try good antihistamine script like amitryptylline from vet in conjunction with good fatty acid supplement like brite coat xs as well as prozyme added to food from 1800petmeds. try 1800petmeds aloe vera and oatmeal conditioner and shampoo every few days as well

Excessive scracting
Q: My yellow lab has been itching and biting his fur; leaving red hot spots. my vet in the past has recomended triamcinolone 1.5mg. twice daily. we also treat the skin with advantage. the vet is reluctant to keep giving the dog this treatment. instead, he wants us to keep the dog locked up in a shed or chained out in the snow. he is an old school vet and i disagree with his advice to chain the dog outside in 10 degree weather forever to make his coat thicker. we keep the dog in the house over night and let him come and go outside during the day. can i get triamcinolone from petmeds? what can we do to treat him. he is 5 yrs at 120 pds. thanx don.
A: For long term cortisone use i recommend low dose pred therapy at 10 mg once to twice daily but then tapered to lowest effective dose. triamcinolone is a bit hard on the adrenal glands to use every day like that. you could also look into allergy testing or a low allergy diet as well

Ephedrine
Q: We have a female 6.5 yr. old doberman. she has been taking two ephedrine/day for years. suddenly the price of ephedrine has risen significantly and we are looking for either a more affordable solution, i.e., a difference med or a better price for ephedrine. she definitely leaks without the meds. can you help us please? thank you.
A: There are other medications, such as phenylpropanolamine for bladder control, but they may not be less expensive than ephedrine. you may want to contact other pharmacies in your community to get a better price on ephedrine.

Diarreah
Q: Stray kitten found, skin and bones has runs real bad. gave it milk two days ago when found now know shouldnt have done that. what should we feed her just dry kitten food? figure she is 3 1/2 months old or so. should we give it any worm medicine yet? gave her a bath because she stunk pretty bad but did not treat her for fleas yet.
A: You could worm her with wormer nemex from 1800petmeds which gets most common worms in young kittens. also stay away from dry food in cats in general in my opinion; if diarrhea could try baby food without onion powder in it or hills i/d from your vet.
Shop for: nemex, 1800petmeds

Limping.
Q: I have an old lab cross who's about 16 years old. she had a toe removed in 2001 and had a slight limp. i've noticed that she is moving a lot slower and her limp is more pronounced. she also stumbles a lot and gets knocked down easier by our other dogs. my question is what medication, if any, should i give her that will be effective and not cause too much irritation? i've given her aspirin before should i continue? thanks, hope
A: Aspirin is ok for at home remedy at dose of 5 mg per pound once to twice daily with food. stop if any upset stomach develops and still should be used under vet supervision long term to monitor liver/kidneys. also consider super joint enhancer from 1800petmeds as well as extra antioxidant vitmains like vitamin e at dose of 400iu daily and vitamin c in form of ester c at dose of 1000 mg twice daily. also consider holistic vet med options like chiropractic or acupuncture www.altvetmed.com. consider vet prescription for stronger nonsteroidal alternatives such as deramaxx or rimadyl instread of aspirin
Shop for: aspirin, vitamin, joint enhancer, 1800petmeds
